Recent History
All financial organisations have faced some serious challenges in recent years. How has HSBC been performing amid the global economic downturn?
The good news is you're joining one of the most strongly capitalised and liquid banks in the world. Whilst many institutions were fighting for survival, HSBC continued to grow in strength and to look for new business opportunities. During this time we injected £750 million of capital for our UK business from our own resources, and created a new $5 billion global fund for small- and medium-sized businesses to ensure they have access to appropriate credit.
Our strength allowed us to seize opportunities for growth despite the difficult economic climate, especially in emerging markets. This has seen HSBC strengthen and deepen our presence in Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia and Central and Eastern Europe.
So while the last few years have been exceptionally challenging, we are continuing to build on our long history of success.
